John Galliano, one of the most controversial fashion designers of the last decade, embarks this week on his new adventure with Maison Martin Margiela.
Renzo Rosso, the President of the OTB group, announced him as the new Creative Director of Maison Martin Margiela, on October 6.
“Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul. John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time”, he said.
Mr. Galliano is responsible for the men’s wear, women’s wear, and a couture line which is called Artisanal. The upcoming show of Artisanal will be held in next January as his debut show after his three-year-break.
Between 1996 and 2011, Mr Galliano worked as an artistic director at Christian Dior. He was fired due to the anti-semitic statements he pronounced while he was drunk. After that, he worked briefly for Oscar de la Renta in New York.
There are a lot of expectations for Mr. Galliano’s new collection for MMM. “The Italian-based empire of Renzo Rosso can give him a platform for his creativity, while working for someone who understands the creative mind.” said Suzy Menkes.
Additionally, after all these dramatic stories, ”Will the master of extravagance blow up the fashion world all over again ?”
We will have to wait and see.
